A female individual previously residing at a women’s sobriety home in the state of California reportedly stole a minivan and led a hours-long law enforcement pursuit ending with her crossing the international boundary into Mexico on the start of the week.

Auto Theft Reported from Recovery Residence

According to a law enforcement announcement, a another female, Nicolle Walters, forty-five years old, notified authorities that her gray minivan from 2004 was stolen, along with her car key. The owner, who manages two female recovery residences, named the alleged thief as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of Los Angeles.

“The keys were taken from my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up right when it was happening,” Walters stated, adding that the vehicle is designated for the facility’s daily operations.

Dramatic Chase Unfolds Across Several Regions

Authorities tracked the van about 19 kilometers north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Wilson did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 145km/h on the 118 freeway until the pursuit continued into LA County. At that point, Ventura county authorities transferred the pursuit to the CHP once the driver merged onto the 405 freeway heading south.

“This one is particularly unusual in the sense of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and extend this pursuit,” commented a spokesperson from the local law enforcement agency.

The suspect reportedly dodged all the tire-deflation devices tossed on the road by authorities, as documented in footage from above.

International Getaway and Aftermath

The chase finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, leading to the highway patrol to terminate the chase due to jurisdictional constraints.

The vehicle owner indicated on the following day that the minivan was located in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was coordinating with the authorities to recover the vehicle.

“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” Walters said. “I’m relieved knowing she was not injured. The car is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and emotional distress is not always linear.

“This is a psychological and addiction emergency,” she said. “We need more support. It is essential to provide more resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“Recovery isn’t always pretty,” she added.
